MOTORBIKE MOT QUESTIONS

Useful answers for riders.

Which motorcycles are Class 1 and Class 2?

Class 1 generally covers motorcycles and motorcycle combinations up to 200cc, plus certain low-powered electric motorcycles. Class 2 covers other motorcycles and motorcycle combinations. Tell us your registration and bike details when requesting an appointment so we can confirm the correct test.

When does my motorbike need its first MOT?

Most motorcycles need their first MOT by the third anniversary of registration, followed by an MOT every year. Different rules can apply to exempt or historic vehicles.

Can you MOT scooters and mopeds?

Yes. We welcome scooters, mopeds and motorcycles that fall within the Class 1 or Class 2 categories we test.

What should I check before riding in?

Check visible basics such as lights, horn, tyre condition, number plate security, mirrors and the operation of rider controls. Do not attempt work you cannot complete safely.

What happens if my bike fails?

The result will show any major or dangerous defects and may also list minor defects or advisories. We explain the result clearly and discuss the next step with you.
